I cannot wait for Travis Kelce to propose to Taylor Swift.

I am writing this post about two weeks after the end of Super Bowl LIX and about a week after Valentine’s Day 2025. Nothing has been reported yet.

The Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles, so any hope that Travis would propose to Taylor as part of a game-winning celebration disappeared pretty early. Most of us watching the game knew where things were headed by the end of the first quarter. Valentine’s Day 2025 has also come and gone, and no proposal has been made public yet.

To be clear, I am a huge NFL fan. Specifically, I am a Detroit Lions fan. Unfortunately, my season ended a few weeks before the Super Bowl, so I was not emotionally attached to either the Chiefs or the Eagles. I did not really root against anyone. I thought the Eagles had a strong team, and that proved true.

The Kendrick Lamar halftime show was surprisingly good. Most folks my age and older either did not like it or did not understand it. Most people younger than me seemed to think it was cool, and it became the primary focus of memes and media in the weeks that followed. As cool as it was, there was no Taylor Swift in the halftime show. Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar collaborated on the song “Bad Blood,” and some were hopeful, even if only slightly, that Taylor might take part in the halftime show. That did not happen.

I should also be clear that I am not a Swiftie. My wife and daughters love Taylor Swift, so I am a fan by proxy. I was made to sit through the concert on Disney+, but by the end, I was impressed. It was a great concert.

Still, I hope there is a ring soon, and my reason is entirely selfish.

I am looking for new music about proposals, engagements, and, of course, weddings. One of Taylor Swift’s hallmarks is her ability to chronicle her life in song. The Eras Tour masterfully looks back over her life, and you can see her develop from a young girl to a teen to a woman. Her journey through life has given women around the world a soundtrack for their own journeys. That is part of what sets her apart. People can find themselves in her songs.

I, of course, am in the wedding business. I spend a lot of time helping couples navigate the pathway from dating to engagement to marriage. While there is a never-ending supply of music about falling in love, romance, heartbreak, and desire, there is far less music about the journey to the wedding day. Everyone sings about falling in love, but far fewer sing about staying in love, preparing for marriage, or learning how to build a life together.

One of the few true wedding songs is, in fact, by Taylor Swift. “Love Story” is about a forbidden Romeo-and-Juliet romance that eventually earns a father’s approval and culminates in a proposal. It is a great song, but that is not the story of most engaged couples today. I am guessing it will not be the story for Taylor and Travis either.

The speculation and attention around their relationship feels like the American version of the British royal couples, whether Charles and Diana or William and Kate. Travis and Taylor’s courtship story already feels legendary, and I am pretty sure it will be the subject of a movie someday. A Travis and Taylor wedding will probably be a little bigger than just a truck and a dress.

Again, though, I am hopeful about the music. I hope Taylor Swift writes new music about the engagement season, offers new insight on that transition, and gives voice to the emotions and depth of meaning this era could bring. For many couples, engagement becomes a holding pattern that slowly turns into event planning. I would love for Taylor to bring a fresh perspective to that season.

There is also added curiosity about Travis Kelce’s future. As of today, it is unclear whether he is retiring or continuing his playing career. Either way, we may get to see a genuine passage of life on full display. That could be meaningful for a lot of people watching from the outside.

My other hope is that, with an upcoming wedding, Taylor might create a new album of wedding music. We need about eight to ten fresh songs in the wedding world. Our current playlist includes traditional wedding music, a Beatles medley, the Bridgerton soundtrack, which I actually like, some rendition of “A Thousand Years,” which is somehow from 2011, and “Marry Me” by Train, released in 2009. It is time for some new tunes.

No disrespect to the incredible musicians and DJs I work with every weekend, but we are ready for a change. I am optimistic that Taylor Swift could be the one to bring it. Her songwriting and cultural reach could help redefine the wedding day soundtrack for a new generation of couples.

As a Lions fan and a sort-of Taylor Swift fan, I wish Travis and Taylor all the best, and I hope they get engaged soon. Furthermore, I hope they call me if they need a minister for the ceremony.
